The Memorial of Blowing of Trumpets is a High Holy Day ordained by the Most High

God for the children of Israel to observe and to keep. The name is often interchanged with the

Feast of trumpets, wherein the children of Israel are commanded to blow up the horns in

commemoration of the highest new moon. Moreover, when the Israelites were gathering the

harvest annually, the feast of trumpets would be Israel’s thanks to the Most High God for it. It is

also to be considered as a New moon Sabbath.

 

Moses during the time of the wilderness presents the children of Israel with the newly

instituted feast day by the Lord in the Old Testament.

 

Leviticus 23:24 –“ 24  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh

month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of

trumpets, an holy convocation.

25  Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto

the LORD.”

Numbers 29:1 – “ 1 And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall

have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets

unto you.”

The Lord commands the children of Israel to observe this particular feast day every first

day of the seventh month annually. Because it is also to be observed as a sabbath, the Lord

commands us not to do any work for hire during this day. It is a holy gathering, so we are

commanded as a body to gather together to celebrate it.

 

Numbers 10:10 – “ 10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days,

and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt

offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a

memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.”

Psalms 81:3 –“ 3  Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our

solemn feast day.”

We are commanded to blow up the trumpets in gladness and celebration on this High Holy Day

on the appointed time that the Most High God has given us.
